Okay Im a useless blogger - its been months since I posted and so much happens in between I forget to include it when I do write.
Well at the moment Im diversifying into cushion covers and block printed scarves - well everythings block printed so it takes a little while to build up a new collection.
Ive sourced the most exquisite indigo coloured linen which is perfect when block printed with pure white ink using my print blocks.
Im creating a raft of new patterns and its all a bit hectic juggling everything!
Well at the end of this week I will have the new range of linen scarves in my Etsy shop, all with new patterns - have a look at this new (but vintage) batik tjap (print block) which will feature intertwined in blossom on one of the scarf patterns.
I love birds, exotic blooms and intricate architectural patterns, so the new range is full of them.
Im sewing the scarves up this week-end and will be photographing them after that but I`ll put a first peek of them up here before they go in the shop.

LOVE your work! It's really inspiring. What wood and tools do you use to carve your woodblocks? I'm a print maker myself, but I'm only just starting to do more intricate blocks for textiles and I'm not sure what tools are better for maneuvering around dots and getting deep into small crevices.
ReplyDeleteOh, and do you know what the shelf life is for the Permaset Supercover Ink you use? I've tried contacting the company but haven't gotten a reply.
Thanks!

Well right after my post, I received a reply from Permaset Inks! They said that the “Product should be stored in cool conditions and kept tightly closed when not in use. Under normal storage conditions a new and unopened container has an indefinite storage life or at least an as yet undetermined storage life as we have never had a tub dry out."
DeleteThey also said to cover your ink with cling-film, keep the lid tightly closed, and not to put unused ink back into the same container because it could shorten shelf-life.
You probably already knew that, but I thought I'd share just in case your other readers were wondering :)
Hi Erica!
ReplyDeleteApologies for delay in reply :)
The majority of my carved work is on lino which I find easier to work with. I still use only two carving sizes to produce all my intricate cuts, simply out of sheer laziness- in not getting myself to the art supply shop and buying the correct heads to carve fine dots and curves etc.
Re the permaset storage life - yes they keep pretty much indefinately - but be warned- if you dont seal the lid properly on the tub a fine layer of mould will grow over the surface of the ink.
Not a major issue - I scoop the top inch off when that does occur and the ink is fine but as its a pretty expensive ink to start with (at least over here in the UK) I try not to incur waste and seal all lids properly after printing.
Sahara :)
